WASHINGTON, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- More than 1,400 tax, real property, probate and trust lawyers from around the country will gather in San Francisco to debate and discuss the latest developments in the tax world -- including issues affecting survivors of Hurricane Katrina, and those taxpayers and others around the country interested in donating to relief efforts.

Also on the agenda when the American Bar Association sections of Taxation and of Real Property, Probate and Trust Law meet in San Francisco, Sept. 15- 17, are discussions on the President's Advisory Panel on Federal Tax Reform, efforts underway to repeal the Alternative Minimum Tax, new guidelines for charitable activity, and recent developments in tax shelter regulations.

More than 100 government officials and policy makers will be on hand for the event, including Hal Hicks, associate chief counsel of the IRS; Carol Nachman, IRS special counsel, Office of Chief Counsel; T. Keith Fogg, IRS senior counsel; Nina Olson, national taxpayer advocate; Roger Colinvaux, legislation counsel, Joint Committee on Taxation; Michael Desmond, IRS acting tax legislative counsel; Heather Maloy, IRS acting deputy chief counsel; Claire Fallon, deputy assistant attorney general for tax, Department of Justice; Belinda Johns, senior assistant attorney general of California; and Chief Judge Joel Gerber of the U.S. Tax Court.

This year's Fall Meeting will also include a special half-day workshop on "Collection of Federal Tax Debt." The workshop, which is co-sponsored by the Tax Section's Low-Income Taxpayer and Pro Bono committees, will be Thursday, Sept. 15, from 1 - 6 p.m. Separate registration is required to attend the workshop.
