Proposed Bill on Property Tax Relief Presented to Leaders of PA General Assembly

HARRISBURG, Pa., Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell said copies of a bill to provide property tax relief for every qualifying homeowner across the commonwealth were presented today to the leadership of both houses of the General Assembly.

Earlier today, Governor Rendell called a special session of the General Assembly to specifically focus on providing tax relief for tens of thousands of Pennsylvania homeowners. The bill he sent to legislative leaders makes property tax relief for all homeowners automatic and also removes the mandatory Earned Income Tax hike.

"The people of the commonwealth are waiting and watching to see urgent action on changing the law to provide property tax relief funded by gaming revenues," Governor Rendell said. "Residents across the state need to know that if we successfully change the law before the end of the year, it will mean tax relief to Pennsylvania homeowners in the near future.

"Our goal is to make the distribution of property tax relief occur automatically by lowering school property taxes all across the state in each of the 501 school districts," Governor Rendell said.
