Jackson Hewitt Offers Final Day(s) Tax Filer Advice...Relax, Know That You Have Time, and Have Fun!
Offices Open Late For Filing Deadline Today (And Tomorrow, For Some)
Professional Tax Preparation Combines With Fun And Relaxing Activities
PARSIPPANY, N.J., April 17 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Jackson Hewitt Tax Service (NYSE:JTX) has over 6,000 locations open to help serve last minute filers across the country. And with less than 24 hours to go for some, the stress level is on the rise. The professionals at Jackson Hewitt offer some final day(s) advice:
* Relax ... The tax professionals at Jackson Hewitt locations will be open
late to serve you. Many offices will be open through midnight, a sort
of "Midnight Madness," keeping their doors open until the last customer
is served. "If you've waited this long to file your taxes, you're
already stressed," said Michael Lister, President and CEO. "Heading out
to have your taxes prepared, you can rest assured that a tax
professional near you is open and available. With the extended filing
deadline, the last minute rush crowd has spread out over those days,
leaving wait times shorter than expected, or non-existent.
And, taxpayers in Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New
York, Vermont and the District of Columbia, can relax a bit more because
they have until Tuesday, April 18 to file timely because their IRS
processing center is in Andover, Massachusetts, which is celebrating
Patriot's Day on April 17th. "Even though some tax filers in these
states may have to send payments or returns to locations outside of
Andover, the IRS is avoiding any confusion by providing all tax filers
in those states the extra day," said Lister.
* You Have Time ... If you feel you're still not ready, you may be
pleasantly surprised to find out that you are much more prepared than
you think. "You've received most of your documentation by now including
W-2s, 1099s, mortgage statements, brokerage statements and other
important documents," said Lister. Visiting with your tax preparer can
help you determine if you have all that you need to file or will need to
file for an extension. Filing for an automatic six-month extension is an
easy process that your tax preparer can help you with. "The value in
visiting your tax preparer today to file for a six-month extension, is
that through a review of your paperwork, an estimate of your taxes due,
if any, can be made, allowing you to make your payment before the tax
deadline and avoid penalties and interest charges", said Lister.
* Have Fun ... Many Jackson Hewitt offices are celebrating the final days
of the tax season with activities to help de-stress last minute tax
filers. From fun games to donuts and snacks, and even free-massages,
many last minute filers will be pleasantly surprised to have some fun to
reduce their anxiety, all while preparing their tax return and searching
for every deduction and credit to help them pay the lowest tax liability
or receive the refund they deserve. "We've found that customers on the
last day typically have a great attitude, but that they are concerned
and a bit stressed about getting their return prepared and filed to meet
the deadline," said Lister. "Our experience shows that customers
appreciate the variety of fun events at many of our offices which we
provide along with fast, accurate and professional service for a quite
relaxing experience."
