FACT/AEI Conference Presents New Research on Consequences of U.S. Policy
WASHINGTON, March 17 /PRNewswire/ -- The Forum for Analysis of Corporate Taxation (FACT) and the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) today co-hosted a conference that considered the effects of corporate income tax policy in the United States. Research presented at the conference examines the implications of tax policy not only for corporate decision-making, but also for national economic welfare.
In addition to research presentations, the conference featured a panel discussion moderated by Gerald Seib of the Wall Street Journal, with Douglas Holtz-Eakin, tax advisor to John McCain's presidential campaign, and former Clinton Administration Treasury Assistant Secretary Jonathan Talisman of Capitol Tax Partners.
"FACT's mission is to offer independent research on our nation's corporate tax structure," said FACT Chairman Robin Beran. "Corporate taxation in the United States has not changed much since the Tax Reform Act of 1986, while competitor countries have substantially lowered corporate tax rates. It is important that we understand the consequences of high U.S. corporate tax rates and proposals to alter the system."
Beran stressed that FACT is not a lobbying group, but rather an organization committed to the sponsorship and dissemination of sound economic research aimed at raising the level of dialogue regarding tax issues.
"I'd like to thank our presenters, AEI and FACT Research Co-Directors Dr. Alan Auerbach and Dr. Glenn Hubbard for this timely and informative program," said Beran. "The diverse body of work presented today moves us closer to a better understanding of how corporate tax rates both influence firm behavior and affect the economy."
The Forum for Analysis of Corporate Taxation (FACT), a diverse alliance of major U.S. employers, promotes independent academic research on the economic effects of U.S. corporate income taxation. In addition, FACT's mission includes disseminating research findings to policy makers and the public.
