Blunt Statement on Economic Stimulus Signing

WASHINGTON, Feb. 13 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- House Republican Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) issued the following statement today after attending the president's formal signing of H.R. 5140, the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008:

"President Bush signed a piece of good, bipartisan legislation into law today that will help address Americans' growing anxiety about the strength of economy in the short term, while creating good-paying jobs as well. His signature enacted the hard work of Congress -- led by Republican Leader John Boehner and Speaker Nancy Pelosi -- and will give relief to millions of American taxpayers.

"I believe this package will help grow our economy during these times of uncertainty. But I don't believe this bill represents the silver bullet for economy that some suggest it is. Republicans know that long-term economic growth is a function of broad-based tax relief, greater investment, and a reasonable regulatory regime. Toward those ends, we will continue our fight on behalf of small businesses and American families -- the backbone and soul of our economy."
