Political Action Arm of Nation's Largest Taxpayer Group Supports Jenkins in Republican Primary
ALEXANDRIA, Va., March 5 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Residents of Louisiana's 6th Congressional District need a true taxpayer advocate who will courageously fight for lower taxes and limits on federal spending. That's the assessment of the National Taxpayers Union Campaign Fund (NTUCF), which today announced it has endorsed former Louisiana State Rep. Woody Jenkins in the March 8 Republican primary special election to replace former U.S. Rep. Richard Baker.
"Woody Jenkins proved his talent as a tax-fighter during his many years of service in the Louisiana Legislature," NTUCF President Duane Parde said. "Backed by his strong, pro-taxpayer record, Woody will serve as a powerful voice on Capitol Hill to curb Washington's wasteful ways. He is a true leader of the conservative fiscal policy movement."
During his nearly 30-year tenure in state office, Jenkins authored more than 300 major bills that were enacted into law - including tax-cutting legislation that ultimately saved Louisiana residents more than $3 billion. Jenkins, who has never voted for a single tax increase, also authored a provision in the Louisiana Constitution prohibiting the State Legislature from raising state personal or corporate income taxes (a law which later was repealed after Jenkins left office). Indeed, such hallmarks of fiscal responsibility led the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) to name him "Outstanding State Legislator in America."
"Woody Jenkins is not some go-along-to-get-along member of his party's establishment, but is instead a genuine crusader on behalf of lower taxes, limited government, and economic freedom," Parde concluded. "Louisianans and Americans everywhere need his steady hand in Congress to reverse the tax, spend, and borrow mentality that threatens future generations."
Jenkins also supports permanent repeal of the Death Tax; permanent extension of the income tax cuts, dividend tax cuts and capital gains tax cuts; Constitutional limits on taxation and deficit spending; educational choice for taxpaying families who fund public schools; and legal reform to curb lawsuit abuses.
NTUCF is the political action arm of the National Taxpayers Union (NTU), the nation's largest grassroots taxpayer organization. NTU, founded in 1969, created the NTU Campaign Fund in 1994. Endorsement decisions by NTUCF require a unanimous vote on a nonpartisan basis by a five-member committee that includes two Independents, one Democrat, and two Republicans.
